It’s just another New Year’s Eve …

The Office

“Don’t look so sad, it’s not so bad you know
It’s just another night, that’s all it is
It’s not the first, it’s not the worst you know
We’ve come through all the rest, we’ll get through this …

It’s just another New Year’s Eve, let’s make it the best …
… when we’re through this New Year, you’ll see, we’ll be just fine.”

NBC refunds advertisers as ratings plunge

From Yahoo News:

Fourth-ranked broadcaster NBC has quietly begun reimbursing advertisers an average of $500,000 each for failing to reach guaranteed ratings levels, the first time a network has taken such a step in years, media buyers said.

This paragraph is interesting:

Magna Global audience analysis exec vp Steve Sternberg said he saw no problem with NBC airing a reality block on a low-rated night like Saturday or even during the week if the production values were high or if it replaced other reality programming. However, “if it replaces midweek scripted hours, it could have a negative impact” on ratings and audience quality, he said.

(The Office will be replaced by Celebrity Apprentice starting January 3rd.)

No more product placement in The Office?

In a story about product placement that took place on a recent ’30 Rock’ episode, the Hollywood Reporter also includes some interesting observations about ‘The Office’:

… “30 Rock” has made it onto Nielsen’s list of the top 10 shows with product placement only one time since the fall season started. “The Office,” another NBC show known for cutting major integration deals with advertisers in the past but which insists it no longer is involved in any such deals, turned up on the Nielsen top 10 list for four of the first five weeks of the fall season.

Beer us strength.

Tonight, the last episode of The Office Season 4 will air.

The LAST episode. For the foreseeable future. WOW.

No more late Thursday night quoting. No more linking to deleted scenes. No more updating the spoiler post.

Well, you know what I say to all that? Adapt. React. Re-adapt. Act.

That’s right — when life throws a strike, you make strike-aid.

OfficeTally will charge full steam ahead, continuing to provide news and entertainment for Office fans, wherever I can find it. Maybe we’ll do the Survivor game for Seasons 1 and 2. Throw in a contest or two. Perhaps I can persuade more Office staffers to swing by for a chat.

OfficeTally will also continue to provide strike coverage. I am keeping in touch with the writers. And they want to keep in touch with you, the fans.

Let’s stay strong and stay together. OfficeTally is still open for business.

Thanks for hanging in there,
Jennie (aka tanster)
