The real cost of Michael’s mayhem

A new blog by Julie Elgar has launched called ‘That’s What She Said’:

Outing a gay employee, forcing a female employee to act out a lesbian love scene as part of sexual harassment training, and mass emailing romantic pictures to the entire company — such are the antics of Michael Scott, regional manager of Dunder Mifflin, the fictional paper company that serves as the setting for NBC’s hit show, The Office.

Named after Michael’s trademark punch line, That’s What She Said puts a price tag on each episode, estimating how much the politically incorrect behavior of Michael Scott and Dunder Mifflin would cost real-life companies to defend.

A fascinating and funny read!

The Office extended to TWO more seasons?

Could Season 5 of The Office be a lock?

RickyGervais.com has this news posted on the front page:

Ricky has scored further success in America, with NBC deciding to make two more series* of the US version of his comedy The Office. Network boss Kevin Reilly said That The Office represented ‘the best of what we consider quality shows’. This will bring the total episodes to 94 which will almost certainly mean syndication.

*I think “series” is equivalent to “seasons” in this case.

Assuming 22 episodes each for Seasons 3-5, 94 does add up …

Updates after the jump.

Office music: it’s hip to be stale

The New York Times discusses The Office’s use of pop hits from yesteryear:

… even casual radio listeners will probably know “My Humps,” which was an inescapable hit for the Black Eyed Peas in 2005. When that song was heard as Michael’s cellphone ringtone in an episode late last year, it instantly communicated two things about him: He was trying to emulate the younger generation, and he was lagging about a year behind their tastes.

Reminder: Rainn on Conan tonight

Just a reminder that Rainn Wilson appears on ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ tonight.

Stephen Colbert and Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials also appear.

This is a rerun of his July 12, 2006 appearance.

Diwali tonight after SOTU

The Office on a Tuesday? Say what?

Yes, Diwali is scheduled to air at 10:30pm tonight, after the State of the Union Address.

Not sure what this means for us non-East Coasters, though … nope, this isn’t showing up on the West Coast schedule. Oh snap!

Update: It is on the west coast! Right now! 9pm! (Thanks, Matt!)

Mindy’s blog

Mindy Kaling (the effervescent “Kelly”) recently blogged about the last two episodes, ‘Traveling Salesmen’ and ‘The Return’:

The three guys, Gene [Stupnitsky], Lee [Eisenberg] and Mike [Schur] — who have never written together — had barely a week to come up with two episodes, and these might very well be my two of my series favorites.

One week?! Amazing.

Mindy blogs mainly about non-Office topics, and it’s a fun read! Especially if you love to shop. :) (100-calorie snack-sized bags of kettle corn popcorn — I never would have known!)
