In Part Two of my conversation with The Office’s Michael Schur, we talk about character development and what it’s like to work with the other writers.
Things get a little out of hand.
Always thinking ahead, like a carpenter who makes stairs.

Part two of my set visit report describes the process we observed in shooting ‘Women’s Appreciation.’
Note: Please forgive me if I ‘geek out’ a little on this part of the report; the whole process really fascinated me. And if I got any of the terms wrong, please let me know!
I finally got a chance to transcribe all my notes of our set visit, and now realize that I have to divvy up my report into several parts. This first part covers a rough timeline of our day, as well as some of the places we got to see.
Hey, welcome to my little photo album of Tuesday’s visit to the set of The Office!
A trip report is coming. Probably after Paley. Please check GMMR — Kath will probably have her report posted before I have mine!
Okay, here we go:
During our set visit on Tuesday, Angela told me she wanted to check out the OT chat room. We only had a few minutes after lunch, so we rushed over to Angela Martin’s desk and logged on. Angela did the actual typing!
(See the OT chat room on Angela’s screen? — with the little OT bobblehead graphic in the upper right corner?)
Check out the jazz babies poster behind Angela!
Here’s what Angela said in chat:
hey guys it’s angela and jennie on set!!! jennie is sitting at my desk with me. we just had lunch. I just have a few minutes and then I have to go to hair and makeup. tanster says that she hasn’t fainted yet. but might at any second.
Oh yeah, big time butterflies in my stomach.
Thank you, Angela, for stopping by chat! :)
It’s late, I’m exhausted, and I have full day of work tomorrow, so I unfortunately have to make this short for now.
The Office set visit today far surpassed my wildest expectations. Kath from GMMR and I got to spend the entire day with the cast and crew, from 9am to 6pm. We watched the filming of an episode, and it was fascinating and funny.
We also got a chance to chat with: Angela Kinsey, B.J. Novak, Brian Baumgartner, Creed Bratton, Ed Helms, Gene Stupnitsky, Greg Daniels, Harold Ramis, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Kate Flannery, Kent Zbornak, Lee Eisenberg, Leslie David Baker, Melora Hardin, Michael Schur, Mindy Kaling, Oscar Nunez, Paul Lieberstein, Phyllis Smith, Rainn Wilson, Randall Einhorn, Rashida Jones, and last but not least, Steve Carell.
Yes, nearly the entire cast was there! My head is still spinning.
Here are just a few tidbits …
The call sheet taped to the door reads: “Super Fans, Jennie Tan and Kathie Skerry — who operate the fan websites OfficeTally.com and GiveMeMyRemote.com will be observing, asking questions, and taking pictures with cast — Please do NOT beat or flog them like the others!” How awesome is that?
Goofing off at reception. I look sad, but I’m ecstatic. Really!
More details to come …
