My visit to the ‘Parks and Recreation’ set

Parks and Recreation

The Office executive producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur premiere their new show Parks and Recreation tonight. The pilot episode “follows Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town, Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) turn an abandoned construction pit into a community park.”

I had an opportunity to visit the ‘Parks and Recreation’ set on Friday.

I visited a location shoot in the morning, and then hung out in the studio for the rest of the day, alternating between watching them shoot Episode #4 scenes on the first floor, and hanging out with the writers on the third floor. They even cleared off a desk for me so I could use my laptop throughout the day!

By the end of the day, I felt like I worked there. It would be so easy …

In any case, here are my random notes and photos from the day. Thank you Greg and Mike!

And remember to watch the ‘Parks and Recreation’ series premiere tonight, in between two new episodes of ‘The Office’!

The Office ‘Two Weeks’ Q&A with Aaron Shure

Aaron Shure joined The Office this season as a co-executive producer and writer. He was also an Emmy-winning producer and writer for the CBS comedy, Everybody Loves Raymond.

As with all other writers who have contributed OfficeTally Q&As, Aaron didn’t hesitate for a second to answer your questions about last week’s episode, Two Weeks. And almost as entertaining as his answers are his non-answers. ;)

Thank you, Aaron!

The Office Peeps Contest – FINALISTS

The Office Peeps Contest

Here are the 20 finalists of The Office Peeps Contest 2009, which was open for entries March 15-28.

It was terribly difficult picking my favorite 20 entries, and it actually took me a few hours. I was really struck with how funny and poignant Peeps can be, even in the simplest of scenes.

In any case, I hope you enjoy these Office Peeps as much as I did! Here they are, in no particular order. And thanks to all you peepologists for the care and detail you put into your creations!

Links: View the entries on pages 2-21 | Vote for your favorite

The top three vote-getters will receive prizes; the 1st place winner will receive an autographed mug signed by The Office cast!

P.S. In the interest of time, I had to make a judgement call and decided not to check each entry against video. The original rules still held up, though, I think.

Q&A with Michael Schur: Part 1

[During our online chat with Mindy Kaling this past Tuesday, she mentioned an interview with Mike Schur that she read here on OfficeTally. That got me feeling a little nostalgic, so given that we have no new Office to look forward to today, I’m re-posting it here. I’m pretty sure this interview started my undying crush on ‘The Office’ writers. Originally posted July 2007, right before Season 4.]

Michael Schur is one of the veteran writers and co-producers of The Office. He’s written or co-written classic episodes from all three seasons, including The Alliance, Office Olympics, Christmas Party, Valentine’s Day, Branch Closing, Traveling Salesmen, The Return, The Negotiation, and The Job. He also played Dwight’s cousin Mose in the episode ‘Initiation.’

I recently had a series of conversations with Michael about Season 4 scripts, the writing process in general, how he really feels about his fellow writers, and other behind-the-scenes stuff. Enjoy! (I certainly did.)

Justin Spitzer answers ‘Moroccan Christmas’ questions

This season’s holiday episode, Moroccan Christmas, generated strong reaction from fans, and is now addressed by a thoughtful and often hilarious Q&A from its writer, Justin Spitzer. (Wait until you read what could have taken the place of Princess Unicorn!)

A big thank you to Justin for taking the time to answer questions during what must be a super busy week!

Brian Baumgartner visits the OfficeTally Chat Room

Brian Baumgartner

It was awesome to chat with The Office’s Brian Baumgartner this afternoon in the OfficeTally Chat Room.

Brian discussed what it was like working with Stephen Merchant and Amy Ryan, why he is ‘King of the Internet,’ and what food he’ll never be able to eat again, because of The Office. Thank you, Brian, for keeping the LOLs coming at a steady pace!

A full transcript follows after the jump, perhaps with a few spoilerish morsels … Continue reading “Brian Baumgartner visits the OfficeTally Chat Room”

Kim’s Halloween journal from ‘The Office’ set

The show that works together plays together. At least that’s the case if you work on ‘The Office’!

I got word today from Kim, The Office’s head of hair styling, that there was a costume contest on set today, with Jenna Fischer as one of the judges!

Here is Kim’s photo journal of the event. All photos used with permission.

UPDATE: Jenna has a slideshow on her MySpace page with even more photos!
