The Office’s Jenna Fischer talks to TV Guide about what’s coming up on the show:
What can you reveal about what’s coming up on The Office?
I know there’s going to be some pretty big changes at Dunder Mifflin, because the company is going under basically. We’re strained financially and so there is going to be a pretty big [event] and that is going to culminate in the new year – and Pam’s going to have her baby. We don’t know what it is, but I believe that will be a two-part episode – I believe that’s what they’re planning.
Is this big event at Dunder Mifflin going to be a real game-changer for the show’s established set-up?
I do think that it’s going to cause some shifts at corporate. So there’s going to be a lot of sort of job changes and it is going to shake up the structure of our current hierarchy.
Are you excited for the arrival of baby Halpert?
Yeah. The wedding episode turned out so great that I’m so excited to see what they do for the birth.
The wedding episode really exceeded audience expectations — what kind of response have you gotten from the fans you’ve encountered?
I have a lot of people telling me congratulations — and I’m engaged in real life and so I assume that’s what they’re talking about and I say, ‘Oh, thank you!’ Then they say, ‘How was the wedding?’ and then I don’t know what they’re talking about then. But I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from fans and from people about the episode, which makes me feel really good. You have such a big responsibility because there are so many expectations, but you also want to surprise people and I think that we were able to do both.
Any guest actors coming on the show soon?
Not that I’m aware of, no. Some of the shakeup with the company might bring some guest actors in, but I haven’t heard anything more yet.
How is Pam’s new career arc suiting her — and you?
Well, I really like my new desk! On a personal level, it’s very warm. The reception desk is very cold. It’s a drafty-air sort of flow. It’s very drafty by reception and Jim’s desk is very, very warm. So, as Jenna, I’m really liking my new placement in the office and it’s also a very social location. The reception desk is sort of an island that no one ever goes to. I really like sitting by Rainn [Wilson] and joking with him and I feel like I’m part of the in crowd now. So I like it. I’m not isolated over by reception anymore. I would sit over there and John [Krasinski] and Rainn would be laughing about something and I’d be like, ‘What are you guys talking about?’ Then they can’t hear me. Now I’m right in the thick of it.
The Office has always fared well at the Golden Globes, and nominations are just a week away. Do you have a favorite Golden Globe memory?
Of course. The year that Steve [Carrell] won the Golden Globe. He was such a dark horse to win. The entire cast, we weren’t even allowed to go to the Golden Globes. We were at a satellite party and we were watching it on the television set and when he won we were so happy that we acted how people act when they storm the field after the World Series. We were like chest bumping and high-fiving and this is in a room full of people with champagne glasses and ball gowns and we were like the second cousins that you’re embarrassed to have at Christmas. That’s how we were acting at this party when Steve won. When he came into the party with his Golden Globe we tackled him. It was incredible. I think everything that’s happened since, there was nothing that was as awesome as that moment.
