Rainn Wilson to star in comedy flick

From Reuters:

Rainn Wilson, who plays corporate toady Dwight on NBC’s cult hit “The Office,” will star in “Kanan Rhodes: Unkillable Servant of Justice,” a comedy in development at MTV Films.

“Rhodes” follows the misadventures of a man who serves subpoenas with the suaveness, intensity and conviction of James Bond, though that is where the similarity ends.

Rainn’s visit to Scranton

Here are a few stories on Rainn Wilson’s visit to Scranton’s The Mall at Steamtown today:

An excerpt from the article:

Instead of a key to the city, which Mr. Wilson jokingly requested, Mr. Doherty offered his office key as a concession. Mr. Wilson happily took it, then replied, “I’ll need your pin, the password for your computer and your social security number.”

Scranton resident Brian Martin nearly stole Mr. Wilson’s thunder when he proposed to his girlfriend and fellow “Office” fanatic, Jodi Kahanowitz. When Ms. Kahanowitz accepted, Mr. Wilson grabbed her and pretended to make out with her. Then, for full comic effect, he did the same to Mr. Martin.

Pop Candy chats with Rainn Wilson

Whitney Matheson of USA Today’s Pop Candy column talks briefly to Rainn Wilson about Grey’s Anatomy, Dwangela, and plans for the new year.

An excerpt:

And what’s on Dwight’s computer screen between takes?

They always get mad at us because they shoot and a lot of us have websites up that they don’t have clearance for. … So it’s a delicate balancing act. A lot of times I’m writing Dwight’s blog that I do for NBC.com. We’re all instant-messenger-ing each other as well. I’ll try and instant-messenger someone right at the time when they’re shooting a scene (to) try and make them laugh. It never works.

Rainn Date

the office rainn wilson

Once again, JustJared has posted a nice scan of an Office cast article — this time it’s Rainn Wilson in the latest issue of People.

An excerpt:

How is dear Dwight handling the staff shake-up?

It’s a new opportunity for him to dominate even more people with his signature flair. There will be a lot of jostling among [the three deputies] and I think there are going to be some fireworks — like actual bottle rockets and M-80s.

Other notable items

This week’s notable items have very little to do with The Office. Hope they’re interesting anyway!

  • Reuters reports that Rainn Wilson’s next project is “Bonzai Shadowlands,” “in which he will star as a once-great ninja who is now living a life of mediocrity.” Read “Office” fascist Dwight dons ninja suit for film.
  • Business 2.0 magazine features Michael Scott and his thoughts on employee motivation. An excerpt: “The three keys to motivating your staff are love (positive reinforcement), fear (negative reinforcement), and chocolate (chocolate reinforcement).” See full scans of the magazine article and cover here.
  • Here’s Rashida Jones (“Karen”) in an impossibly cute music video for “Be Gentle With Me” by The Boy Least Likely To. Thanks Sydney!
  • For you Ricky Gervais fans, he’s released the second of three free “Podfather” podcasts, courtesy of Guardian Unlimited. The podcasts star Ricky, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington.
  • What has Karly Rothenberg (“Madge” from the warehouse) been up to? How about voice work in the latest California Cows commercial? Karly writes, “I am the cow that comments on how it was fun while it lasted, and then I suggest a rousing game of dodge ball! How cool to be a California Cow!” Watch the commercial here.
  • Okay, one 100% directly-related Office item — check out proudgirl’s latest fanvid creation, “Dance Inside,” in the Office Fan Video Playlist. Sniff, sniff …
