‘The Office’ wedding, Scranton, PA

In many ways, “The Office” helped bring Kevin and Susan Stempien together. So, when time came for them to join together in holy matrimony, they decided the Scranton-based NBC sitcom should be a part of the festivities, tradition be damned.

And boy, did they make sure that every detail was just right!

Andy Buckley in Scranton this weekend

The Office’s Andy Buckley (‘David Wallace’) visits Scranton this weekend.

He’ll be attending a “Raising the Roof!” happy hour on Friday, kicking off The Office Fan Tours on Saturday, and maybe even hanging out at the Pocono Raceway with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (he’s apparently quite the Office fan) on Sunday.

Quite the busy itinerary!

The Office Fan Tours are scheduled every Saturday throughout the summer and showcase landmarks made famous by ‘The Office’:

Four-hour tour that begins at the Mall at Steamtown and ends at Poor Richards Pub. Includes full lunch at Cooper’s w/ beet salad, crab bisque and more. Local brews and wine included with 21+ ticket, however keep in mind this is a clean, fun family tour. Tour includes recognizable places and inspirations such as Farley’s, The Bog, Paper Magic, Cooper’s, Penn Paper building, Alfredo’s, and many other Scranton sights.

Cost: $35 adults, $25 children

The Office Convention II

This post lists information and/or speculation about the next Office Convention to be held in Scranton, PA.

Latest update, June 4, 2009: “Admission [for The Office Fan Tours] is $35 for adults and $25 for those under 21, with proceeds going toward the next ‘The Office’ Convention, which won’t be until at least 2010.” Source

Andy Buckley at Scranton St. Patrick’s Parade

Andy Buckley (“David Wallace”) appeared in this year’s Scranton Saint Patrick’s Parade two weekends ago.

Andy’s report

Once again, the folks in Scranton proved that ‘there ain’t no party like a Scranton party …’ Took the red-eye to Philadelphia and Ken, owner of the LimoGuy (best Limo service in the entire NEPA area) was right there with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in hand ready to roll. If you ever need a Limo in NEPA, Ken The LimoGuy is the guy to call …

Almost 100,000 people lining the streets. Over 1 million pints of Guinness consumed between the hours of 7 AM Saturday when the bars opened and 4 AM Sunday the next morning when last call was announced. I tried to do my part in that effort but was clearly an amateur.

Saw many many Dunder Mifflin signs along the parade route and heard many a shout out from the good people braving the cold weather. A lot of fun.

Roland Greco, a buddy of mine and ironically the Michael Scott look alike winner from the Convention and Amy ___ (I don’t have her last name I’m sorry) — the Angela look a like winner rode in the car in front of me — a couple of troopers as it was cold …

The bars were filled by 8 AM with the younger folks, getting their St. Patty’s drink on … hats off to the town, for keeping it very orderly considering the town turns into one gigantic Delta House — for that one day a year.

Met Miss Pennsylvania Rachel Brooks — a very nice gal. Talked with Governor Eddie Rendell a little bit — sharp guy. Did not get a chance to say hello to the local favorite, Senator Hillary Clinton, but as an Irishman from Boston, I did get quite a kick out of meeting and having a nice chat with Max Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy’s youngest son who is a huge fan of the show.

The biggest highlights were going from pub to pub with local legend Tim Holmes, from the Scranton Times, and hearing just about everyone in attendance shouting out “Dunder Mifflin!!! When are the new episodes coming back on???!!! Dunder Mifflin!!!!” Just a blast of an environment.

Scranton’s 20-piece bag pipe band was going from pub to pub as well. Grabbed slices during the night from Brunetti’s and Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe, had pints at Cooper’s, Farley’s, and of course at the Radisson.

Threw back a couple of pints with Sara Hailstone and Michelle Dempsey who along with Tim organized the convention … and they’re talking up the next one.

Keep your NY, Boston and Chicago St. Patty’s Day parades … give me Scranton’s any time. A ton of fun and an electric city filled with some great people. Thanks. — AB

Office Convention planner podcast

The Office Convention website has been updated with a link to a podcast featuring some of the convention’s planning committee — Tim Holmes, Matt Smith, Tucker Hottes, and Michele Dempsey.

The podcast discusses how last fall’s amazing weekend came together — from the initial idea, to making contact with NBC, to deciding which events would be on the schedule, to the committee’s favorite moments of the weekend.

Little tidbits about The Office cast and staff are sprinkled throughout.

All told, more than 45 cast, staff, and NBC folks attended the weekend, which is a testament to the planning committee’s hard work!

And what about a 2008 convention? No official news yet, but OfficeTally will be certain to let y’all know! (The podcast does mention a certain Dunder Mifflinite who plans to appear in Scranton during the St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 15 …)
