Stapler meets Kate Flannery at ‘The Lampshades’ show
Hello, Jennie! I had another nice fan encounter with a cast member from The Office!
After getting to meet Angela Kinsey at URI on April 25th, one week later I got to see Kate Flannery in her comedy lounge act, The Lampshades, in Los Angeles! I was in L.A. for a weekend visit with a friend, and made seeing Kate’s show a priority during my stay. I checked her website and was happy to learn that The Lampshades perform at IO West on Hollywood Boulevard on the first Saturday of the month … just when I’d be in town!
So I called IO West a few days before my trip to reserve tickets, and I have to say that the staff there was so nice! They filled me in on the different improv groups that would be performing that night, gave me a tip about getting a good seat at the later shows, and told me about the $4 valet parking (great deal!). The theater is fairly small so you feel like the performers are putting on a show right in your living room!
The first improv group we saw was The 313, featuring Larry Joe Campbell from According to Jim and Keegan Michael Key from MadTV. I was looking forward to seeing Beer Shark Mice at 9 pm, because David Koechner (Todd Packer from The Office) is one of the featured performers, but he wasn’t in the show that night. Darn!
That group did feature Neil Flynn though, the Janitor from Scrubs! To start off their improv routine, they asked for suggestions of a “place that would fit on this stage.” I shouted out “a cubicle in an office!” and they used my idea as the basis for their show that night! I got to talk to Neil after the show and he posed for a picture with me.
But then it was 10 pm and time for Kate’s show. It was outrageous! She and Scot Robinson put on a hilarious music and comedy show and her character, Kassie Chew, makes you completely forget about Meredith!
I had seen her coming into the theater through the front entrance before the show, so I waited in the lobby/bar area after the show. When she came by, I said hello and introduced myself, mentioning that I had just met Angela last week. She said “Oh, you’re the one …” That threw me for a minute, wondering what she meant. Then I remembered that I had sent her an e-mail saying I’d be catching her show and I had attached the picture of me with Angela.
We chatted for a few minutes and I told her I thought she was completely under utilized on The Office. I hadn’t yet seen “Casual Friday,” but she mentioned that I’d see plenty of her in that episode!
She posed for a picture with me and just like all the other cast members I’ve met, she was just so nice! Very friendly and approachable, taking the time to talk for a few minutes.
So I’m up to six cast members that I’ve met so far! Would have been seven if David Koechner was there that night …
I loved reading everyone’s fan reports (including mine – reminded me of my fun night meeting Kate!).
Everyone’s stories were great and the photos are awesome! We are quite the lucky bunch that we get to meet such down-to-earth celebrities!
I especially enjoyed the Paley Center girls story. You guys look like a lot of fun to hang out with! I’ve met people in unusual ways and become friends over time, so I know what that’s like.
Thanks for sharing, everyone!
That was great – thanks for sharing that!
I love reading about this stuff…although I’m so beyond jealous and would do anything to meet anyone from my favorite show, I still love reading and seeing other tallyheads meeting our idols. We need more east coast apperances by the office cast! (come to Philly PLEASE!!!)
Thanks Jennie for posting. I just wanted to clarify that Ed Helms didn’t lose the tooth at 15, he actually had the implant at 15 to replace a “baby tooth”. My younger sister actually had the same problem. I also found a video a fan shot at another “Hangover” Q&A with Ed Helms talking about that tooth, breast implants, SNL, and Jerry Seinfeld.

OMG!!! I am SOOOOO jealous!!!
This just fuels my desire to meet the cast members even more!!
Those were some really great fan reports, btw. I enjoyed reading those!!
Hey took a trip over to the Marshfield Hills General Store today. Steve was not there, but he had sent over about 20 autographed hats to the store. I bought one my self, but there were only a few left so any people who live near or in Marshfield should head over soon! They are mixed in with the other hats, and signed on the inside so you may have to look. They have plenty of other Dunder Mifflin Ware too, so if you don’t over soon enough for a hat, you can always get a t-shirt! Good Luck finding one!
Hi Tanster!
I just wanted to let you know that I went to the advanced screening of Away We Go in Boston tonight and John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph were the special guests! They didn’t tell us right out that they were the special guests and I didn’t want to get my hopes up so I kept telling myself he couldn’t possibly be there. But then I saw one of his brothers come in and you know it’s his brother because they look a lot a like. Then I was thought, “OK maybe he will show.” And sure enough at the end of the movie I saw him and Maya come in through the back (that’s where I was seated) and they graciously answered our questions. It was so much fun!
The movie is great by the way. I highly recommend it and not just because I’m a Krasinski fan. But both he and Maya did exceptional. The supporting cast was phenomenal. And I haven’t laughed that hard in a movie theater in a long time. All in all it was perfect and for the actors to show up was just the icing on the cake!
PS: I do have photos but my camera is awful and I wasn’t close enough so my pictures are very very blurry. No up close shots, but if you’d like any then just let me know.
john krasinski is hot. jaci is so lucky.
and that’s all i have to say about that.
